Welcome to CMM

The CMM forum software was recently upgraded, some things may have changed and some things may be broken or not working. Please let me know by PM or on IRC if you have any problems using this forum.

Also, I've removed the skybox and shader links for now, the shader generator page was being abused and as we're moving towards a ue4 mapping base, they're redundant.

Grid Sky-box

Postby leighrex » Sat Dec 14, 2013 1:32 am

Hey guys, not sure if I've posted on this site yet, but I haven't visited in a long time! How's it going everyone?

Any who, I was just curious to know if it was possible to design a 3D Grid sky-box? I recently watched a Counter-Strike Surf map video and the map had a really cool sky-box that I'd love to use in my upcoming map! Here's the link of the video I was watching, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hheuVX5WvsY I also took a quick screenshot whilst watching the video for those of you who aren't keen on watching the video.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank-you! Also sorry if this has been posted before, just in a rush and i don't have the time to search today, so a quick post is what I done.

-Leigh

Bsp doesn't store any textures. Give me a link and I'll see if I can find it.

Not sure how hard it'd be making a skybox with a 3d grid In it, always matching the other sides

It would be pretty easy to make using 3dsmax assuming you dont want to be able to fly through it and it's only "in the background", or you could try building it with brushes in a seperate "box" and use the _skybox entity.

Sorry for my late-ish reply, but here's where I downloaded the map http://css.gamebanana.com/maps/167740
Never tried to create my own shaders, let alone a sky box... But I could give it a try! Could you guys point me in the right direction?

Edit: I've found a way to extract the texture from the .bsp.

Noticed this on the download page

"Try r_3dsky 0 if you have fps issues. This disables the 3d skybox and will free up some resources."

Must be a model or load of brushes with grid images.

it's defenitely a 3d skybox (just like in urt the 3d sky) -
he (the mapper) did it very well, 4-5 grid rows next to every point where you could possibly see the sky
