Welcome to CMM

The CMM forum software was recently upgraded, some things may have changed and some things may be broken or not working. Please let me know by PM or on IRC if you have any problems using this forum.

Also, I've removed the skybox and shader links for now, the shader generator page was being abused and as we're moving towards a ue4 mapping base, they're redundant.

Light the hole map and water

Postby quick » Sun Feb 17, 2013 11:20 am

Hi.
How can I light the hole map? I'm making a map with boxes, and it gives many shadows, but how to light the hole map, so the shadows aren't there anymore?
Do I have to set light in every shadow?
I'm also making water in my map, but did as I did with the ladder. How can I do so I can swim in the water? It's solid, and I'm using ur watercaulk. I have put it in the script folder, and put the texture in the texture folder, but maybe I did something wrong.
I made a box, and used watercaulk on it. Then I choosed the top, and choosed a water texture, but when I test it, then it's solid.

Add this to your skybox shader
q3map_skylight 50 2
Or this, q3map_surfacelight 50
If you want to get rid of the shadows almost completely, add this line q3map_lightmapFilterRadius 0 x. Higher the X, blurrier the shadows will be. A value of 16 will remove all smaller lightmaps.

Post your water shader, but first try deleting that water brush and making it from scratch. I had this problem many times and it was damn near never a shader issue.

I can't make a shader, because I don't know how, and I wont learn it. Do I have to use q3map2toolz for doing the light? If yes, then it's impossible for me.
Can I do it in "N"?

If you won't learn it then there's nothing here to teach you.

Like Xan said. If you're unwilling to learn then don't waste my time.
However, if you don't want to use shaders you can always use light entities to light up a map. Even create a point light with infinite sun effect that can replace a skybox entirely.

And what is "N".

Markinho that's correct. It's the entities. My friend can light his map up by doing something under "N". He says it's ambient, but I can't get it to work. I wont learn to make shaders if it's hard to do. I've other things I will do.
But I use Custom Map Makers water caulck texture, so what to do, so it works? How to make the water?

If it's hard to do? Actually shaders are very simple and easy. But since you already decided you got better things to do instead of learn how to write a 15 lines long shader, then i will just say this.
I got better things to do than to teach you anything.
BTW ambient lighting looks ridiculously horrible.

But how can I do that q3map stuff? And now u say it's easy, then learn me it!
And about the water. It's still solid, because of no help!

Just another of my guesses
You have a watercaulk texture with a working shader, but does the water texture (upper face) have a shader?
If you make a watercaulk only brush you *should* be able to swim, maybe is the top part which makes it solid
