Little problem with max

Post by Markinho »

I'm trying to model a window's handle out of a line, but when I hit surface in the modifier list the last 4 vertices disappear, and I really don't understand why

If you know a better technique I'm listening

edit: if I uncheck "remove interior patches" they show up again, but are messed up :|

Why use a line, make a cylinder.
You'll need around 7 segments maybe more. Make it 9 sided, then a apply a FFD 2x2 modifier, make the tip narrow.
Now apply bend modifier, bend it at 120 degrees on Z axis and then limit the effect so the top is straighter.
Now add FFD 3x3 and add some finishing bends that you need.
So in the end you're still working with a cylinder and can add segments or sides if you want it to be of higher or lower quality.

Alright thanks, after some attempts I got a decent outcome, I don't know most of modifiers yet so the line was easier to work with, also because my handle hasn't exactely a cylindrical shape, it's almost squared in the end and there is a... mmh how's called... well see yourself, where the thumb should be when you grab the handle

Learn modifiers, there's a lot of them and some are extremely useful, especially when it comes to bending and distorting multiple polygons.
